As I write these lines, it is November 11, 2024. In a few days, on November 19, Pluto will cross into Aquarius, where it will remain until 2044. We are at the end of a collective cycle, as Pluto has been stationed at the final degree of Capricorn for several weeks, a critical degree—one of culmination—where the full shadow of the sign is revealed. This transitional period invites us to take a deep inventory and reassess our journey.

Saturn and Pluto: Mythology and the Transformation of Patriarchal Structures
Capricorn represents authority, hierarchical structures, and patriarchal values rooted in control and responsibility. Astrologically, Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the god of time and boundaries, symbolising rigid authority and the weight of ancestral rules. Saturn sets laws and limits, urging us to confront our responsibilities and grow through work and discipline.
When Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008, it brought a complementary force of deep transformation into the collective unconscious. In Roman mythology, Pluto rules the underworld, representing hidden aspects of the soul, mysteries of death and rebirth. This invisible power dissolves what no longer serves us and brings buried shadows to light, revealing hidden truths. Under Pluto's influence, the foundations of patriarchal systems represented by Capricorn began to crack, exposing the fragility of rigid power structures and control dynamics.
Thus, Pluto in Capricorn has invited us to revisit our own relationship with authority and power, to evaluate the structures we have built, and to ask ourselves if they truly serve our evolution. The alliance between Saturn and Pluto in this sign has allowed a profound shift to take place, both individually and collectively, requiring a redefinition of our relationship to power and breaking away from old limitations in order to build stronger and more authentic roots.
With Pluto’s entry into Aquarius, a new era begins, marked by the values of freedom, innovation, and collective vision. Aquarius, ruled by Uranus — the primordial sky god in Greek mythology — embodies freedom, originality, and an absolute break from established norms. With the rulership of Uranus, Pluto in Aquarius calls us to let go of outdated systems and embrace a broader collective consciousness.
Key Events of Pluto in Capricorn: The Emergence of Collective Shadows
Several major events during Pluto’s transit through Capricorn acted as catalysts for transformation:
The 2008 Financial Crisis exposed flaws in our economic system, questioning the integrity of institutions and the influence of financial elites. This upheaval compelled us to rethink collective values around responsibility and transparency.
The Rise of Social Media reshaped media power, enabling individuals to express themselves and challenging traditional media. It also fostered unprecedented mobilization for justice and truth.
The #MeToo Movement shone a light on abuses of power and control in personal and professional spheres, rooted largely in the patriarchal structures embodied by Capricorn. This collective movement exposed long-repressed shadows, releasing stagnant energy and initiating a collective healing process.
The Black Lives Matter Movement highlighted systemic injustice and racial inequalities, sparking a global awakening to the need to dismantle oppressive power structures and reconsider justice. It resonated deeply with Pluto in Capricorn’s transformative energy.
The Climate Consciousness Surge and the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2015 catalyzed a shift in ecological perspectives, emphasising our shared responsibility for the planet.
The COVID-19 Pandemic disrupted social, healthcare, and economic systems, urging us to rethink essential systems and our connection to human interdependence. It underscored the need for resilient collective foundations in the face of a crisis that revealed previously hidden vulnerabilities.
Reflecting on the Last Pluto in Aquarius Cycle (1777-1798)
Astrology, at its core, is the study of cycles. Pluto’s last transit in Aquarius (1777-1798) coincided with profound shifts that redefined global power. The American and French Revolutions exemplified the fight for freedom and the dismantling of old hierarchies. The Enlightenment further challenged entrenched beliefs, while the start of the Industrial Revolution marked unprecedented technological advances. The abolitionist movement began to question human rights and freedom on a new scale. Together, these upheavals symbolised a break with the past, echoing the Aquarian transformative forces we are now invited to engage within ourselves and our societies.
Shadow Work and Integration
With Pluto in Capricorn, we have been called to explore the shadow of this archetype. In Jungian terms, the shadow represents unconscious aspects of ourselves that we repress or project outward. These years have allowed us to confront uncomfortable truths around authority and power structures, initiating a deep healing process. By integrating these shadows, we become capable of releasing old fears and limitations, paving the way for a more open and liberated collective consciousness.
Personal Exploration:
To support this introspective process and integrate the lessons of this period, here are some questions designed to nurture our personal contemplation:
What deep transformations have taken place in my life since 2008 on a personal, professional, or spiritual level? How have these changes helped me better understand who I am?
What aspects of myself or my life have I needed to dismantle to build something more authentic and aligned with my core values? What have been the greatest challenges in this deconstruction?
How has my relationship with power, security and authority evolved? In what areas have I taken on more responsibility and how has this strengthened my sense of integrity and maturity?
What personal or collective shadows have revealed themselves to me during this period? How have I worked with these uncomfortable aspects to grow or transform my perspective?
Looking toward the future and Pluto’s passage into Aquarius, what structures or beliefs am I ready to release to welcome more collective and innovative ideals?
What dreams or intentions would I like to cultivate in this new cycle?
And to take the contemplation further...
What aspects of myself have taken on the role of protectors since 2008? How have they helped me navigate moments of profound transformation?
In what situations has my “inner critic” — or Saturn’s voice — shown up to remind me of rules or set boundaries? How have these protections influenced my choices and relationships?
How have my protectors, in the form of inner critics or tyrants, offered me a sense of safety or control during phases of deconstruction?
When have I felt the Dramatic Triangle dynamic (Persecutor, Victim, Rescuer) in my relationships or my relationship with authority? In what circumstances has the “Persecutor” within or around me appeared to maintain a certain order or structure?
How has my “Persecutor” side allowed me to explore my personal authority and self-discipline? Does this role need to evolve today to better align with my current values?
How can I invite my protectors, or my “inner critic,” to act with gentleness and kindness as I move into this Aquarian era, focused on collective vision and innovation? How can I reprogram my nervous system to listen to my heart, free from rigid inherited patterns, allowing myself to embrace greater vulnerability?

Pluto in Aquarius: A New Era of Collective Vision and Ancestral Wisdom
With Pluto’s entry into Aquarius, we are ushering in an era steeped in collective vision, freedom and radical innovation. On an esoteric level, Aquarius energy invites us to transcend limiting old patterns and embrace a universal consciousness where the boundaries of individuality dissolve in favour of a greater unity. Driven by the dynamic force of Uranus, we are encouraged to break rigid frameworks, explore the unseen and envision a future where each person contributes to a collective and inclusive harmony.
This period of transformation also resonates powerfully with nature itself. The melting glaciers, though dramatic, release memories long buried within water crystals, imprinted with the vibrations of ancient civilisations and timeless wisdom. These glacial waters carry subtle archives, fragments of knowledge that, upon release, remind humanity of lessons in balance and deep connection with life. They offer us keys to building a society more aligned with universal laws and planetary consciousness.
The teachings of Edgar Cayce, the “sleeping prophet,” strongly resonate here; he spoke of the return of the lost knowledge of Atlantis, believing it would re-emerge when humanity was ready to receive and integrate it. The arrival of Pluto in Aquarius embodies this prophetic vision, creating a space where science and spirituality unite to reconstruct ancient wisdom adapted to today’s challenges. This new era isn’t just about looking toward the future but drawing from the timeless memories of Earth to co-create a future guided by enlightened collective vision and a profound connection to ancestral wisdom.
As we stand at the dawn of this age, Pluto’s lessons in Capricorn remind us that true freedom arises from authenticity, humility and personal integrity. By honouring past teachings—whether from ancient civilisations or nature’s own forces—we enter this phase with maturity, clarity and intention, ready to build a future where individuality and collective vision merge in harmonious symbiosis.
If I were to summarise Pluto’s passage from Capricorn to Aquarius, I would say we are shifting from a pyramidal power structure—where a single authority controls the rest below—to a return to the circle, where everyone sits as equals and power is shared. It’s up to us to integrate this transformation into our nervous systems, inviting our "inner critic" to sit alongside all the other parts of ourselves. In doing so, every aspect of our being can express the gifts we are here to offer to a world in the midst of labour pains, embracing its full creative and transformative power.
