We have all felt how the weight of past experiences can limit our ability to fully embrace life. Trauma has many ways of infiltrating our daily existence, often leaving a profound impact on our well-being. The integration of Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy with hypnotherapy offers a gentle yet powerful path toward healing these wounds and building resilience. By weaving together the principles of IFS and the transformative depth of hypnosis, we can embark on a journey of self-discovery, restoration, and transformation.

In my own path, I needed support to integrate intense flashbacks of early childhood abuse that surfaced during a de-armouring retreat, as well as to process insights received through plant medicine ceremonies. Conversational hypnotherapy, combined with my discovery of Internal Family Systems, became invaluable tools for making sense of these experiences on a cognitive and emotional level. This is why I now offer this integrative approach.

My intention is to provide a safe, gentle, and soothing container where whatever arises in you can be welcomed and transformed. I have often felt such support was missing after deep shamanic or experiential work. This practice is deeply heart-centered, grounded in a Yin philosophy that empowers you to uncover the precious gems hidden behind the cracks of trauma.

Understanding Internal Family Systems (IFS)

At the core of IFS therapy lies the concept of the 'internal family' — the understanding that our psyche comprises various parts or sub-personalities, each with its unique thoughts, emotions and motivations. These parts serve as protective mechanisms or coping strategies, often rooted in past experiences and trauma.

In the process of IFS, we learn to recognise, acknowledge and nurture a compassionate relationship with our inner parts. Obtaining full permission from our protective parts is crucial for accessing the deeper layers of our psyche, helping us prevent triggering the nervous system into fight or flight, or shut-down, and avoiding re-traumatisation. When we connect with our Self, the core essence of our being beyond these parts, we immediately restore harmony within our internal system, unlocking our capacity for healing and returning to a state of well-being.

Exploring Hypnotherapy: Accessing the Subconscious Mind

Hypnotherapy utilises techniques of deep relaxation and focused attention to access the subconscious mind. In a hypnotic state, we are more receptive to suggestion and are able to bypass the critical faculties of the conscious mind. This allows for direct communication with the subconscious where deeply rooted beliefs, memories and emotions reside.

By being guided into a state of 'enhanced consciousness', hypnotherapy facilitates profound shifts in perception, behaviour and emotional processing. It offers a gateway to the subconscious mind, allowing for the exploration and transformation of unresolved trauma and limiting beliefs, thus paving the way for healing and growth. The level of trance I use is light, akin to the state we are often in while driving and arriving at our destination without recalling how we got there! You'll remain able to communicate with me throughout the session maintaining full control.

"Trance is a natural process that allows the mind to reprogram itself."

— Milton H. Erickson

The Synergy of IFS and Conversational Hypnotherapy

When combined, IFS and hypnotherapy complement each other beautifully. IFS offers a clear and compassionate framework for understanding the psyche, while hypnotherapy provides direct access to the subconscious. Together, they create a holistic path for healing trauma, resolving inner conflict, and fostering authentic personal growth.

To support this process, I integrate somatic tools inspired by polyvagal theory, guiding you to reconnect with your bodily sensations. By continually returning to the body, we cultivate a deep sense of safety and grounding, which is an essential foundation for moving forward peacefully in the healing journey.

In an IFS-informed hypnotherapy session, you are gently guided into a state of deep relaxation and focused awareness. From this state, it becomes easier to connect with your internal parts, explore hidden emotions, and release stored trauma. Hypnotherapy allows the subconscious to open, making space for the transformation of limiting beliefs and the integration of new, empowering perspectives.

Benefits of IFS-Informed Somatic Hypnotherapy

The integration of IFS and hypnotherapy offers powerful benefits for those seeking deep healing and transformation:

  1. Trauma Recovery – IFS-informed hypnotherapy creates a safe space to process unresolved experiences, gently releasing emotions and memories held in the subconscious.

  2. Emotional Integration – By connecting with our inner parts, we cultivate greater self-awareness, compassion, and resilience, restoring inner harmony and balance.

  3. Neural Reprogramming – Hypnotherapy helps rewire limiting subconscious beliefs and patterns, encouraging positive behavioural shifts and lasting personal transformation.

  4. Empowerment – This integrative process supports us in reparenting ourselves, strengthening boundaries, and developing a stable inner authority, so that we can step fully into our own power.

Healing trauma and fostering personal growth are deeply individual journeys, unfolding in their own rhythm for each person. By engaging in this process, we open the door to the profound wisdom and energy held within the unconscious, allowing it to flow back into our lives with clarity and strength.
